Hashtags on Vinted: do they work, and which to use?

· 3 min read

Plenty of Vinted descriptions end with a wall of hashtags: #zara #mango #vintage #y2k. Some of those tags help a little, and some can get a listing removed. Vinted’s help centre doesn’t describe any special hashtag feature. Buyers find items by typing words and setting filters. Here’s what that means for your listings, going by Vinted’s own rules.

How buyers find items on Vinted

Vinted’s help centre describes search as a search bar where buyers type what they want, with its own example “skinny black H&M jeans”, and filters to narrow the results. Brand, colour, item type: that’s what people type. Vinted doesn’t describe hashtags as a separate feature, so treat a hashtag as one more word in your description.

What Vinted’s rules say about hashtags

  • The catalogue rules count “using other brands which are not related to your item in the brand category, title/description or as a hashtag” as a breach of its intellectual property policy. So no #zara on a no-name top, however similar it looks.
  • Writing “inspired by” followed by a brand is generally prohibited too.
  • Listings can’t contain links or references to other websites or platforms.
  • One listing per item: re-uploading the same piece to get more views is against the rules.

Listings that break these rules can be removed, and repeated breaches can lead to an account block. Our guide to a blocked Vinted account lists the reasons.

Fill in the fields first

Brand, size, colour, condition and material each have their own field when you list an item, and buyers’ filters read those fields. Someone filtering for size M never sees an item with no size set, whatever tags it has. Choose the real brand in the brand field, and for a bundle, pick one of the brands in it.

Write a title people search for

The title is the first thing a buyer reads and holds the words they’re most likely to type. A simple pattern works: brand, item, one detail, size.

  • Levi’s 501 straight jeans, mid blue, W30 L32
  • COS merino wool jumper, oatmeal, M
  • Nike Air Force 1, white, UK 6

Where hashtags can help

At the end of the description, a few accurate words buyers might type that aren’t already in the title: a style (#vintage, #oversized, #y2k), a material (#wool, #linen) or an occasion (#weddingguest). Three to five is plenty. Every tag has to be true of the item.

Words get you found, the photo gets the tap

The right words put your item in the results; the first photo decides whether anyone opens it. Our guide to Vinted photos that sell covers that part. Vintsee writes the title, description and tags in your language from your photo, and can add a worn photo made from it, keeping colour, print, logos and wear as they are. Keep your own photos of the real item in the listing too.
