The worst Vinted photos, and how to avoid them

Everyone who scrolls Vinted has seen them: the jumper photographed in a dark bedroom, the dress in a ball on the duvet, the mirror selfie where the flash hides the item. They’re funny until it’s your listing nobody clicks. Here are the most common photo mistakes, and the quick fix for each.

1. The dark photo under a yellow lamp

Ceiling lights turn white into beige and navy into black, and the phone adds grain on top. Buyers can’t tell the real colour, and a wrong colour is a classic reason for a “not as described” claim. Fix: shoot by a window during the day, with the lamp off.

2. The messy background

An unmade bed, a pile of laundry, a cat, last night’s dinner. The eye goes everywhere except the item, and the listing looks careless. Fix: a plain wall, a door or a clean floor, and the same one for every listing.

3. The crumpled item in a heap

A shirt thrown on the bed looks worn out even when it’s new, because creases read as wear in a photo. Fix: iron or steam it, then lay it flat and smooth, or hang it on a door.

4. Half the item, or the item far away

Sleeves cut off at the edge, or a tiny dress in the middle of a big room. In the feed, the first photo is a small square, so whatever doesn’t fill it disappears. Fix: hold the phone upright and let the whole item fill most of the frame.

5. The flash mirror selfie

The flash bounces off the mirror and makes a bright spot right on the clothes, and the phone covers half the outfit. Fix: no flash, stand by the window, hold the phone at chest height off to one side, or use a timer.

6. The filter that changes the colour

A warm filter looks nice on Instagram, but the buyer receives the real colour. If it doesn’t match, you get a return. Fix: no colour filters. Brightness and cropping are fine.

7. The flaw nobody can see

Hiding a stain or a hole works until the parcel is opened. Then it costs you a return and a bad review. Fix: photograph every flaw up close and mention it in the description. Buyers trust listings that are honest about wear.

8. A photo that isn’t of your item

A product photo copied from a brand’s website, or a photo of a different piece. Vinted’s catalogue rules ask for photos taken by you that show the item as it is, and buyers want to see what will actually arrive. Fix: your own photos of the real item, front, back, labels and flaws.

From “worst photo” to worn photo

Worn photos help buyers see the fit, but not everyone wants to pose. Vintsee takes your own clean photo of the item and puts it on an AI model, keeping the colour, print, logos and wear as they are, and writes the listing text too. Keep your own photos of the real item in the listing next to it. Our guide on Vinted photos that sell covers the rest.
